Although it is known as "Barbados," it was called "Los Barbadas," meaning "the bearded." While in Barbados, you hear people refer to it by its nickname "Bim."

The development of plantation economy led to a decrease in the number of landless barbarians, which led to 30,000 barbarians leaving the island and other Caribbean islands and North America between 1650 and 1680. As the slave trade continued, Barbados became one of the largest slave-trading countries in the world, a position it held until the late 1980s. The effects of conquest and colonial times are still visible on the islands, especially in terms of population growth and economic growth.

Barbados remains popular with British tourists, and there are over 100 resorts and hotels in Barbados, making it one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean.

For most travellers, Barbados is a safe and welcoming place, but it is important to be vigilant and take steps to reduce the risk of being robbed. Cruise ship passengers who stay less than 24 hours do not need a passport and do not require a visa to visit. LGBTQ travellers should be aware of the country's existing laws against homosexuality and not face hostility or prejudice when travelling to Barbado, regardless of where they come from, as interaction with the police would be a rare occurrence. With its low crime rate, low cost of living and high quality of life, it is a great and safe place to stay.
